چکیده

We study the impact of Cu intercalation on the charge density wave (CDW) in 1T-CuxTiSe2 by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Cu atoms, identified through density functional theory modeling, are found to intercalate randomly on the octahedral site in the van der Waals gap and to dope delocalized electrons near the Fermi level. While the CDW modulation period does not depend on Cu content, we observe the formation of charge stripe domains at low Cu content (x < 0.02) and a breaking up of the commensurate order into 2 × 2 domains at higher Cu content. The latter shrink with increasing Cu concentration and tend to be phase shifted. These findings invalidate a proposed excitonic pairing as the primary CDW formation mechanism in this material. Thermal expansion and effect of pressure on superconductivity in Cu(x)TiSe(2).

We report measurements of thermal expansion on a number of polycrystalline Cu(x)TiSe(2) samples corresponding to the parts of x-T phase diagram with different ground states, as well as the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, T(c), for samples with three different values of Cu doping. Thermal expansion data suggest that the x-T phase diagram may be more complex tha...

2 00 7 Properties of charge density waves in La 2 − x Ba x CuO 4

We report a comprehensive x-ray scattering study of charge density wave (stripe) ordering in La2−xBaxCuO4(x ≈ 1/8), for which the superconducting Tc is greatly suppressed. Strong superlattice reflections corresponding to static ordering of charge stripes were observed in this sample. The structural modulation at the lowest temperature was deduced based on the intensity of over 70 unique superla...

Semimetal-to-semimetal charge density wave transition in 1T-TiSe(2).

We report an infrared study on 1T-TiSe(2), the parent compound of the newly discovered superconductor Cu(x)TiSe(2). Previous studies of this compound have not conclusively resolved whether it is a semimetal or a semiconductor-information that is important in determining the origin of its unconventional charge density wave (CDW) transition. Here we present optical spectroscopy results that clear...

Remnant of stripe order.

At a phenomenological level, the superconducting phase of the cuprate high Tc phase diagram shown in Fig. 1A can be characterized as a BCS (named for three theorists: Bardeen, Cooper, and Schrieffer) superconductor with a d-wave gap. However, a suitable phenomenological description of the so-called “pseudogap” region indicated by the yellow shaded region in Fig. 1A has been missing. This region...
